چکیده

Person re-identification (re-id) is a critical problem in video analytics applications such as security and surveillance. The public release of several datasets and code for vision algorithms has facilitated rapid progress in this area over the last few years. However, directly comparing re-id algorithms reported in the literature has become difficult since a wide variety of features, experimental protocols, and evaluation metrics are employed. In order to address this need, we present an extensive review and performance evaluation of singleand multi-shot re-id algorithms. The experimental protocol incorporates the most recent advances in both feature extraction and metric learning. To ensure a fair comparison, all of the approaches were implemented using a unified code library that includes 11 feature extraction algorithms and 22 metric learning and ranking techniques. All approaches were evaluated using a new large-scale dataset that closely mimics a real-world problem setting, in addition to 16 other publicly available datasets: VIPeR, GRID, CAVIAR, DukeMTMC4ReID, 3DPeS, PRID, V47, WARD, SAIVT-SoftBio, CUHK01, CHUK02, CUHK03, RAiD, iLIDSVID, HDA+, and Market1501. The evaluation codebase and results will be made publicly available for community use.

Saliency Weighted Features for Person Re-identification

In this work we propose a novel person re-identification approach. The solution, inspired by human gazing capabilities, wants to identify the salient regions of a given person. Such regions are used as a weighting tool in the image feature extraction process. Then, such novel representation is combined with a set of other visual features in a pairwise-based multiple metric learning framework. F...

Person Re-identification: System Design and Evaluation Overview

Person re-identification has important applications in video surveillance. It is particularly challenging because observed pedestrians undergo significant variations across camera views, and there are a large number of pedestrians to be distinguished given small pedestrian images from surveillance videos. This chapter discusses different approaches of improving the key components of a person re...

Structured learning of metric ensembles with application to person re-identification

Matching individuals across non-overlapping camera networks, known as person re-identification, is a fundamentally challenging problem due to the large visual appearance changes caused by variations of viewpoints, lighting, and occlusion. Approaches in literature can be categoried into two streams: The first stream is to develop reliable features against realistic conditions by combining severa...

Learning Compact Appearance Representation for Video-based Person Re-Identification

This paper presents a novel approach for video-based person re-identification using multiple Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Unlike previous work, we intend to extract a compact yet discriminative appearance representation from several frames rather than the whole sequence. Specifically, given a video, the representative frames are selected based on the walking profile of consecutive fram...
